Announcing Workshops May 13 and May 27/2017
The Basic Elements Workshop - May 27/2017 10am-3pm
Many people learning to improvise are baffled and hung up on how to form melodic ideas.
This workshop will focus on how to work on applying scales, chord voicings and inversions, arpeggios in a live musical setting.
We will play two simpler pieces ( Blue Bossa, Whats Going On) and also various genre grooves with a rhythm section and discuss how to employ these important foundational elements in a musical way.
The pieces we will prepare are:
1. "Tune Up"
2. "Footprints"
As usual for my workshops the first hour and a half is a class environment where the curriculum (I provide) is discussed and reviewed. Followed by a break for lunch. (Included) Then for the remaining 3 hours we learn how to put it altogether in a live setting. If it sounds like a long time, dont worry it goes by fast.
The Contemporary Music Workshop - May 13/2017 10am-3pm
The pieces we will prepare are:
1."BEAUTY AND THE BEAST"
2. "SOLAR"
The first hour and a half will be a class on the harmonic and technical elements that are relevant to the above mentioned "pieces".
Followed by a break for lunch. (Included)
Then as always we engage with the rhythm section for rest of the workshop and employ
the concepts discussed in the class.
Hello, John Pelosi here.
Welcome to the information page regarding “The Guitar Arts - Music Workshops”. ‘Guitar Arts Studio’ offers an innovative music workshop experience. This workshop will be open to guitarists, bass players, drummers and keyboard players. The venue is The Bolton United Church @ 8 Nancy Str (Bolton/ Ont) The major emphasis will be on playing in a live setting. In these sessions I will be promoting a range of subjects mostly focussed on the musical tools to interact in a diverse live playing environment.
The two workshop I offer are Basic Elements Workshop" and “Contemporary Music Workshop". (More info for each below) The main objective of the workshops are to help students / participants gain a greater awareness of how to use the technical knowledge studied in our lessons creatively. Not only in different styles of music, but also various grooves and tempos etc... all in a live setting. So there’s going to be lots of playing. The entire class including the master class will be at times accompanied by a live rhythym section.( bass player and drummer) Students will receive a binder of curriculum and sheet music of ensemble pieces to be performed weeks ahead of time, so that everyone has time to prepare.
Workshops will be on a pre-determined
Saturday from 10am-3pm.
The cost is 180$. Here is the structure of my workshops:
1) 75-90 min master class consisting of technical instruction/ binder of curriculum supplied (Scales, Chords, Inversions, Arpeggios etc..)
2) Break (light meal included)
3) 2-3 hrs of “hands on” application in a supportive playing environment. (There should be a break in there as well for short discussion / observation…)
I want to make sure that everyone has a good opportunity to employ the concepts discussed in class and in lessons….and have a good time.
I’m keeping the class small (6-8 participants) so that everyone has a great experience and hopefully gains insights of how to create in the moment….and again have a good time doing it.
(Very Important)
Participants will receive the curriculum and ensemble peices in their private lesson weeks prior too the date of the workshop. I’m planning to have a workshop every
8 wks - 2 months.
If you’re interested in attending a workshop or want to know more please email me at
